ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The Southwest Virginia EMS Council, Inc., is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization incorporated in 1979.  It is an integral part of Virginia's comprehensive EMS system. It serves to assess, identify, coordinate, plan and implement efficient and effective regional EMS delivery systems in partnership with Virginia's Office of Emergency Medical Services and EMS Advisory Board. We provide a wide range of services to promote our organizational mission and strategic plan that defines how we can best serve the diverse and unique needs of the regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system.

Our Services include the development and implementation of a regional emergency medical service delivery system (through EMS system planning and coordination); EMS training; EMS testing; EMS grant assistance and review; information, referral, and technical assistance; coordination of the regional Critical Incident Stress Management team; and operation of a regional training equipment lending library.

Our Mission:

To evaluate the needs of the EMS community and to provide the services necessary to reduce morbidity and mortality in southwest Virginia arising from emergent illness or traumatic injury through facilitation, coordination, and planning of a comprehensive EMS system.

Our Vision:

To constantly elevate the quality of prehospital care and EMS response throughout southwest Virginia.
